Re: Superduty spring swap thread
maybe not worth doing with stock height superduty springs but 4,6, or 8" springs would be

Re: Superduty spring swap thread
That's exactly what i am starting to think. Setting the truck up for superduty leaf packs is still very well worth it. "Setting up" as in drilling out front hanger holes, and longer shackles.
You can't get any lift springs for a highboy for less than $500 (I think this is low, as well)
Here are 4-6" lift pro-comp superduty springs for $144 each.... with free shipping. Comes out to $290 shipped to my door.
I may order these, i'm just worried that 4-6" may be too much. http://www.carparts.com/details/Ford/F- ... 7224101760
Says it is a 5 leaf pack. Stock has 2 almost 1/2" leafs. 5 thinner leafs on these leaf springs will flex better than fewer, thicker leafs any day.
At least you guys can sit back and watch me do all the experimenting work and you'll know what to do

Re: Superduty spring swap thread
Sweet! I was looking at them on parts bin then happened to find the carparts site for a few dollars less per spring, but if you are happy with parts bin and they shipped relatively quickly and all then i may just pay a few extra dollars and play it safe!
I would LOVE to see the springs installed before I order a set so i know if the 4-6" ones i'm looking at (and you bought) are too much for me or not!!! Can i come put them on for you?

Re: Superduty spring swap thread
i have seen 8" superduty springs on a dent and it cleared 39.5 boggers nicely. not by a mile but it cleared them, dont know if it had body lift or not. i think i recall them saying that they lift the old trucks a little less than the newer ones so if you wanted 4" i'd go for the 6" springs but it depends on how high you really want it.

Re: Superduty spring swap thread
My truck is now sitting on 4" lift procomp springs.
Not going as planned
Got the springs in, that was no big deal. u-bolts are completely wasted and dangerous and won't even work to drive around the block, and auto parts store doesn't have this kind... they are only ok to sit the truck on the tires in the driveway to look at the change in height.
Issue number two is that the rumor that 4" superduty springs lift you 2" is busted for sure, i'd say ADD 2" not subtract 2"...
The way it sits now seems to say "i'm compensating". However, I assume the springs will sag in an inch or so after a little while (brothers lift springs on his bronco sagged a TONNNN in the first month), and there is about 500-600 pounds in the flatbed which is raising the front maybe a half inch, or 3/4"..
And the rear is still not lifted making it look a little funnier.
Issue #3. Had to pull the driveshaft just to put the leafs on. Uh oh.
Driveshaft is too short now. Fully extended, it will just barely reach i think (not on yet) with truck at ride height. Not going to work. Looks like now i get to drop a hundred bucks on getting the driveshaft lengthened.
The plan: Tomorrow i'm picking up some add-a-leaf/blocks. Buddy has them on his '85 4runner that this guy sells up here in placerville CA. They are about 1.5" thick or something, and about a foot long. Slightly curved, drilled all the way through. So its' like a really thick leaf spring, but acts more like a block. THen i am going to add probably 2 leaf springs to the rear packs as well. Hopefully this brings the rear up 2.5" or so, which still isn't much at all compared to what the front is looking like right now.
I'm going to dump the 500-600 pounds of steel out of the flatbed back into the sideyard as well to hopefully let the front rest at true height.
Then i'm going to find some new u-bolts, and pull the front driveshaft completely. Then i can drive the truck, and get it aligned (not because of the lift itself but because its had a slight wobble with the 35's and i want it toed in exactly right and caster/camber checked).
37" Goodyear military take offs are on the list, hopefully a couple weeks

Re: Superduty spring swap thread
Edited the post to explain more. Definately not 2" of lift. Closer to 6" than it is to 2, thats for sure.
Hoping the springs settle, weight out of the bed brings it down a tad, and lifting the rear makes it look better
