Another speedometer problem

Post by timmytim »

Every since I've own my truck the speedometer needle has jumped around at speeds of 0-35. I finally got around to pulling cable out and inspecting it. I pulled the cable all the way out and cleaned cable and housing with brake cleaner. Then rubbed wheel bearing grease all down cable and installed it. Well it still jumps around.... To me the cable looked a tad short and maybe pulling away from the gear a low speeds. But I don't know....any ideas?

it may be the inside of the cable was dirty too. it may have needed cleaned also. i dont think being alsight bit too short would do anything to make it jump.

Craig what would be cool is if I could find somekind of steel brush to push through the cable housing.

maybe a air gun. after you spray the cleaner through it and let it soak.

Welp I called lmc and ended up buying a new cable and also a new gear. The gear I have is 19 tooth and speedometer is off 10 miles too fast. So I ordered a 21 tooth.

for a c6 there are two lengths of gears. i hope you got the right one. i forget right now how to tell exactly. i'd have to do a search to remind myself what the difference was.
