Maybe a dumb question, but I wonder why they don't run an air ride type seat. My back would be killing me the next morning...

Safety issues is my guess. As the suspension of the seat compresses, the safety belts go slack.Ranchero50 wrote:Maybe a dumb question, but I wonder why they don't run an air ride type seat. My back would be killing me the next morning...

Re: 1971 f250 DESERT truck- testing video
Good evening Ryan,
I enjoyed both of your videos very much! It really looks like you're going fast (especially the second video), and that must mean it felt 100x faster behind the wheel. How hard were you pushing the engine?

Re: 1971 f250 DESERT truck- testing video
Thanks guys
Robroy,
you're one of the few that realizes how much faster it is inside the cab than watching a video. One of my buddies watched the video and asked why i was driving it so slow. THen i took him for a ride and he said he takes that back!
Not really pushing the engine that much. only time i had it wide open would be the run up to the stadium jump, because the run-up is so short and right out of a turn. But even then, i wasn't revving it that high through the gears. It's hard to give it lots of throttle on a short course track with desert tires
Jeff, getting airborne in the truck is pretty amazing!
Jollyroger, i've never seen anyone use f600+ fenders on a f100 prerunner, but i've seen a lot of talk about it. It always ends with it not being worth the time/effor to have a fender that probably wouldn't look as nice as fiberglass fenders.
There is a slick side that has f600+ front modified fenders though and it looks fantastic. Although the slick sides already have a similiar whel well bulge.
Ready for the race next weekend! Less than one week until we are RACING, can't believe it..
A couple more things to do but they arn't things necessary to race... we're good to go.
-Double sheared all the steering
-Revalved all the shocks again, filled with 250 psi nitrogen, along with bumps. crossover nut lowered.
-Trimmed bedsides more to cut off bent part of the bedsides and so the tire hopefully doesn't catch anymore
-threw another gusset on the rear bedside supports
-Pulled the leaf packs to swap the bushings but ran into issues, old bushings are still in but bolts arn't cranking the hanger/shackle to the leaf springs anymore, they are double nutted with loctite. Also found the 2nd leaf was hitting the shackle most likely what was stopping the droopage..
-grabbed a set of ruff-stuff spring plates laying around and welded tabs on to them, this time offset to the side to accommodate the shock being out more on this cage, and also to use wider mis-alignments so rearend can flex more
-moved the GPS antenna to corner of dash so it doesn't fry, also did a soft reset on the GPS
-taped up all the holes in the cab hoping to keep a few pounds of dust out of our lungs
-bolted first aid kit to floor next to seat
-extended fuel filler and re-mounted cap to shock tower so dump can get on it better. Re-routed vent line.
-paint touch up, cleaned the heck out of the truck (must look good for it's debut!), even shined the tires..
Will do for now. going to add a plate
bedside supports. can't lose the bedsides! need the brake lights on them..
pretty cool toy. can't wait to see what the top speed recording is after the race.
ready to shred
Still going to add lower bedside supports.. .the part behind the wheel flaps around a lot when off-road
Also need to get a bag to strap to either the front spare or i'll make a tray to strap it to by the air tank
And skid plate.

Re: 1971 f250 DESERT truck- may 22 - cleaned up
thanks guys! Finishing up the skid plate right now, and bracing the hood and bedsides tomorrow real quick before loading up onto the trailer!
It might rain during the race, and if rain-x doesn't do the trick in dirty conditions then we're kicking the windshield out. Should be exciting. Lets just hope for sun.

Jack mount, skid plate, and tow vehicle... ready to load the truck up and head out to the desert early tomorrow. Graduating high school in a couple hours, lame, i just want to go race!

Re: 1971 f250 DESERT truck- RACE time!
Congrats on the graduation.
Good luck in the race.
Years from now, when you look back, your view will be different. I was 45 when I got my GED and it was a big deal for me, unlike high school when I was a teen.

Re: 1971 f250 DESERT truck- testing video
Good evening Ryan!
Are you planning on going to college, or working and Bumpside-building for a while? In my opinion, school's not always the best way to become more educated. I think it's extremely important for guys to recognize what they're interested in, and focus all of their energy in to learning more about that. Focusing the energy is the key. Of course, it helps if a guy's interests align with what somebody wants to spend a lot of money on! And in your case it seems to, since there's always a lot of money being spent on automotive stuff.
Robroy
I know what you mean. I think that a guy has to video-record his own driving to appreciate how true this phenomenon is. My German friend Mani Augustine took a video clip of--what I thought was--some aggressive acceleration in #50, but when I saw the video later it only looked slightly faster than normal driving. So since it looks like you're really cooking in the video, that has to mean that it felt like you were absolutely ripping inside the cab!1971ford wrote:Robroy, you're one of the few that realizes how much faster it is inside the cab than watching a video.
Exactly!!!1971ford wrote:One of my buddies watched the video and asked why i was driving it so slow. THen i took him for a ride and he said he takes that back!
I see--that's interesting.1971ford wrote:Not really pushing the engine that much. only time i had it wide open would be the run up to the stadium jump, because the run-up is so short and right out of a turn. I got that same feeling during high school, only it kicked in for me years before graduation! Congratulations though; I'll bet that's a big relief, and a bizarre feeling too since you've probably been in school more or less constantly since before you can remember.1971ford wrote:Jack mount, skid plate, and tow vehicle... ready to load the truck up and head out to the desert early tomorrow.
