1972 bump body on a superduty frame ?????

Post by jdf »

i have a 1972 bumpside was thinking about getting a 1999 or newer superduty 4 wheel drive frame to put it on , my 72 is a regular cab long bed . so i thought about getting a regular regular cab longbed superduty would be my best bet . i know were there is a 2001 superduty 2wd frame with a 4.10 limited slip disc rearend under it that i can buy the whole frame for 500.00 with a title . but then i would have to go find a 4x4 front end and springs for it . i found out that the 2 wd frames are the same as the 4x4s so the holes are prepunched for the 4x4 frontend to bolt right under there . just was wandering how hard it is going to be to make the 72 bump body to bolt on the superduty frame . has anyone on here ever done this i wonder ????

Its possible, but not bolt on for sure. It would take some work and I think the frame is a bit longer on the superduty. So you might have problems like gaps between the front or rear bumper.

The harder problems would be getting stuff on the inside to work like speedo-gauge and the like.

I know I have seen atleast one done, it was a red crewcab long bed that was totally custom. Overall, I think it would be a lot of work.

not sure of the wheel base on the super duty but couldnt you slip the leaf springs up a litttle bit to make the cab to bed gap right the trim off the ends of the frame .i think i seen the red crewcab on a link somewhere wasnt it a regular cab when he first put it together ?it just seems cool to me to have a bump on a superduty frame . would make a awesome truck i think .

it is a crew cab i am pretty shure he streched the cab like 10 in and the bed also to make it fit i think it would be more work than its worth.

The original conversion was a regular cab, then later stretched.
