Post by bigred1951 »

simple question but i dont know the answer haha..will or would a manual trans from a 2wd truck work inplace or a manual trans in a 4x4?..example u got a 3 on tree and you want a 4 on the floor..you get the 4 speed from a 2wd truck..what will it take to get the trans to work with the transfer case or could it? thanks haha

Depends. What transfer case are you using? are you putting this in a F100 or f250? Is the truck originally a 4X4 or are you converting one to a 4X4? You'll have to givbe us a little more info before we can give you a correct answer. For example the 2X4 NP 435 is similar but not exactly like the F250 4X4 NP 435. The 4X4 version has a different tail shaft housing that has provisions for mounting the transfer case shifter. It does not have a hole for the speedo cable. I believe there are a few other differences as well, but I believe that you could swap the tail housings if you can find the proper tail housing.

For a F100 with a mated transfer case, the 2WD tranny won't mate up w/ the transfer case. The tail housings have different bolt patterns.

F100 NP435 has a different spline count on the output shaft going to the transfer case than the F250 NP435... And this may be by years manufactured as well :? I have bought a NP435 transmission to replace the one in my truck. When I went to put it on the Dana 21 transfer case wouldn't work. So I went and got a NP205 transfer case, better for me in the end that way. But as was mentioned before a lot more information is needed to give you a correct answer. I am currently running a transmission out of 67 F350 I believe, and I don't think either one of my transfer cases will bolt to it... But I haven't really checked it out yet.
