Hi,
I am new to the forum. I have a just purchased 68 F100 with a 360/c6. I have a great 300-I6 on my garage floor. I was thinking that the AOD would be the best match for the I6. I am only just getting started.
I believe the later truck came with this combination? Is this as simple as finding the right trans and bolting it all up.
I am sure there are going to be linkage issues. Who knows.
Any thoughts might keep me from wasting time that could be spent in other areas.
Thanks in advance,
Silas

Thats what I did. Make sure when you get the AOD you get the torque converter with it, and if the aod is off of a 302 just get a flex plate at napa from say a 1985 F150 with 300 and aod combo.
All Aod's are not the same, pre 88's have bad rear oiling problems. V6 AOD's are the Weakest, inline 6 and v8 AOD's are better, but the best of all the aod's are the elusive 1992-93 F150 models with the 302. They have all the strongest parts, and upgrades that most people do on other aod's. That said, you can upgrade any AOD, but there is more money involved than I cared to spend.
Other than shortening the driveline a few inches it bolts right up and works great. And I just used a lable maker to print OD to go over where d was, and D to go where the 2 was on the shift indicator, like stock aod vehicles had. So now it Reads P R N OD D 1. Hope that helps some.

1968 F100 Took the running 390 out, and installed a Built 300 with AOD.

Re: 68 F100 360/C6 swap to 300-I6/AOD
Thank you so much for the post. I wanted to hear from someone that did it.
Looks like your I6 makes some hp.
I want to have what everyone wants these days. As much performance as we can get without giving up mileage.
I am sure the AOD will help with that. I have an extra three speed top loader, but the 3speed winds the engine too high on the freeway, and thus mileage suffers.
I will look for the right AOD. Thanks for the guidance.
All the best.

Also remember to keep you cable adjusted right. Early OD's had a problem of killing the tranny if the tv cable I think its called was set-up right.
