Ok guys and gals, I am going to attempt to pull a rabbit out of the hat :lol: . The Beast is in need of some serious wiring help. And as we have all come to find out, when it comes to electicity, I am a moron :D . I have all the diagrams that I need to show me where everything goes. The main problem is that the diagram doesn't say anything about what size the wire should be. I was looking at the truck today and there are a bunch of differant sizes in there. HELP!!! If someone has a diagram that shows the sizes or can maybe jot them down for me, I would be very grateful. I have already replaced a couple with wire that I know is too small but had no choice at the time.

If you cannot find wire size, consider the fuse size in the circuit. Do a search for wire carrying capacity. Then size wire according to the next larger or two size larger. (reverse engineering). I think some of the newer diagrams give wire sizes.

This diagram shows 3 fuse sizes. From the size you can determine the minimum wire size. Try to match the existing to avoid workability issues. The smaller you go the harder to be assured you do not damage wires in use.

The following information was obtained from the '1970 Ford Trucks Body Builder's Layout Book' which I borrowed from 4x4x4crewcab for scanning purposes, to be posted later to the site. (I'm ALMOST done with it, Mark!) ;)

The following wire chart suggest wire gages for various maximum current draws and will aid in the selection of the correct wire size. The current capacity of a given wire varies with temperature and type of insulation, but the following values are generally acceptable. The values listed are the maximum current capacity for plastic-insulated copper wire:

20 gage - 10 amps
18 gage - 15 amps
16 gage - 20 amps
14 gage - 25 amps
12 gage - 30 amps
10 gage - 45 amps

Now, on to your original question. The following is a chart scanned from this same book. I'll be including it in HTML format on the site sometime in the near future for easier reference, but in the meantime, you can use this:

This chart also shows some circuits only found on the heavy-duty trucks, but everything in the light-duty trucks should be here.

Another neat thing is those wire color codes were used on all the Ford cars and trucks for many many years.

Well, Thank you for the help I got. I went to the junk yard and got a bunch of wire with ends and had fun today. Here are the before and after pics. Also you can see that I dropped the alternator down. The other thing I did was add a second horn, they should here me coming now :lol: .

The cab looks real good. Although I think my nieghbors think otherwise lol. Thought it would fit through the gate but no, it is sitting in my carport lol.

Heavenly just don't let anybody near the second horn.

A buddy of mine got to close When he doubted the size and bolt pattern of a cars 360 motors' valve covers to be the same as the truck and in a rage whipped his valve cover out of there with enough force to ruin the second horn.
