Stripped Axle bolts

Post by tanusfarms »

Ok so I was replacing the rear wheel cylinders and noticed I have 1 or 2 bolts that hold my axle shaft on from the out side that are stripped. When I removed some of them I also saw 1 bolt that was broken. What is the best way for me to deal with this? Can just retap the holes and use a larger bolt?

If you do retap make sure you use the proper grade bolts. It should work. Helicoil works also, but I am not sure if I would use it for that application. :hmm:

Any one have a clue as to what would be a good size to go to if I am going to retap?

Yup. Just helicoil them to the same size/pitch.

i picked up a helicoil set today. I figure if the heli doesn't hold I can always retap.

helicoils work pretty good. i like them. just keep your drill straight and then tap it stright. the rest is just screwing the insert into the new threads.
