My Crew
I had a thread on this truck but it's been probably 2 years scince I updated so it's likely gone now
So I bought this thing in '06 I think, big plans you know how it goes
did a disc brake axle swap from a '78
Then drove it for 2 years
But the body is totally shot so we loaded up and drove to Cali and picked up a donor body from Doug Commer
made a stop or two
interesting view
then I stripped the donor down to nothing and had the doors media blasted and epoxy coated
The cab and box were suposed to follow right away, that was over a year ago....
The cab has been tarped up in the garage ever scince and I installed the yellow box last summer and tossed the white one
I had been focusing on racing more and promoting races but now the crew needs some lovin, I could have finnished the crew twice from what racing has cost
The plan was alway to go Diesel, I wanted a Cummins but I had a factory new 1990 7.3 given to me sooo
in it's going, pics from the fall
You can see the cab in the back of the "garage"
It will need a 2" body lift to clear te bell housing and I have an '86 F250 diesel donor that I'll be taking the rear axle, 4 speed and transfer case from
I'm also going to cut the engine cross member out and weld it into the '72 for a better fit and no fab hassels
Also putting in a power steering box from a '78 to get rid of the ram thats in it now
I'm finally loading up the cab/box to get them blasted and epoxy coated this weekend
I'll use the rad from the '86 and mod the '72 support to fit it aswell
so the goal this summer is to have the body mounted, engine and drivetrain done and steering dialed in, then paint and final assembly next year

Re: My Crew
That summer goal also includes getting married, building 2 cross country race courses and entering at least 5 races
It sure is hard to make a list of what I'll do to the crew because of all the stuff I've collected over the past few years,
2 F100 freebies, F600 dash countless emblems and a zillion spare bolts from stripping the freebies, and all kinds of dodads that will suposedly make it better
I tried to organize while I went but after knockin the dust off the "parts bins" I find myself saying "wtf is this for" ALOT
how many tailgate hinges dose a guy really need? or thrashed lap belts?
probably have 10 2bbl carbs (seized) that would make a really nice beer can
So there'll be a big push this year on the 'ol crew cause racin don't pay the bills and I want to drive it one day

Re: My Crew
Hope things go smoothly.
The 80+ crossmember and pre-79 front axle don't necessarily agree with one another. The 80+ trucks moved the pinion outboard 2" for crossmember clearance, something to keep in mind.

Re: My Crew
I couldn't resist swapin it on so BAM!
aaaaannd it will probably look much like this for a year or 2 but hey, a little progress is always good
I also got a custom mobile stand for the old cab to move it around while I transfer parts later, it looks a little sketchy cause it is

Re: My Crew
Thanks man!, Im basicly building a new truck (not a show truck) to drive all year round and not worry about a thing, so realisticly it will be 2 years before it hits the road, but it'll be done and I wont have debt because of it70 ranger wrote:Man!... Re: My Crew
What colors have you thought about painting it? I know it is a little early but just wondering.
