I reversed the pan and built a kickout sump for the 5.9 in my father's 77 F-350 SCS.

A quick update, picked up a pressure switch last night, a 3200 governor spring and a all aluminum powerstroke intercooler, 30"x18"x2" core with 3" inlet and outlet.

Diesel Swap Day 1

Ok, here we go with todays list...
1. Finish installing a hydraulic lift mechanism in a tilt deck trailer for a friend.
2. Pull my boat out of the shed to get my engine lift out, which is buried in crap (boat and the lift).
3. Put the boat back away.
4. Move the '70 F350 out front.
5. Get my '64 fairlane running and out int he alley.
6. Get the truck lined up with the garage
7. Remove the engine and tranny.
8. Pressure wash the engine bay and frame rails.
9. Do the killer dowel pin repair on the 6BT.
10. Drop the oil pan and straighten it out.
11. Finish the tranny cooler oil lines (flare fittings, etc.)

Did I mention we have a flood warning and 100% heavy rain all day?

Well, what an eventful day... No pictures, too busy being pissed off. Suffered through a few rain storms getting the hydraulics hooked up, had to go get a solenoid for the motor and then found out the pump was locked up. Before that the skid loader didn't want to start so three hours later checking everything and a new set of plugs it runs like it's full of watered gasoline, thank you Govt. sponsered Ethanol...

I did get the fairlane moved, once I rerigged the fuel jug under the hood and replaced the missing battery cables it ran. Then it went down instead of forward so a gentle tug with the not so good running skid loader showed that the front tire was flat. Air in the tire, pulled out of the tire holes and it moved on it's own, right down into the alley without brakes...

Got the truck started and moved too, it's only puking stale gas out some orifice in the carb. Filled the intake valleys so it's sitting overnight...

Tomorrow will be better.

Ok, spent about an hour porting the 12cm3 turbine housing. Amazing that they would build it to choke off the port before getting to the wheel slots...

Bolted it back on and made sure everything spins freely. Cleaned up the mess and off to get some much needed rest.

Well, day two and maybe it's a sign. It's cold out and Lou ran out of gas right at the garage door so I'm just going to take the engine stuff off out there and leave the garage warm. The tow truck is out front so I may even yank the motor out there too.

Goals for the day?

Get the old motor out
Pick up the motor mounts on order at NAPA
Clean up the engine bay
Stay warm...
Do the pump mods on the 6BT. I have a 3200 spring to install and might tinker with the fueling while there.

Wow, so far so good. Got everything done and even took a nap by the wood stove too. The Bosch VE pump is really neat inside, got the spring swapped and just need to decide where to set the other bits.

Today my silicone couplers and T bolt clamps showed up, fresh off the boat from you know where but the quality looks pretty good. I still need to figure out what size V clamp goes on the turbine. Napa lists a bunch of clamps but none have the right sizes and some don't list any size...

Actually I kind of like this...

Keep the 3" V clamp and use up some of my 3" stainless to get below the cab...

Comments?

Jamie, you can weld anything you want to the HX35 flange or make a new flange from plate. Many of the HX's I run across have the cast elbow on them that's useless in anything but a dodge.

Well, after taking the last batch of pics I tried to lift the engine and tranny combo with my lift and it wasn't happy 6" off the ground much less 6 feet so I jockied the junk around yet again and pulled the tow truck around back. Hooked the engine and tranny up and tried to drop it in place...
Image

On each of these pics the engine is tilted further and further back so the tranny would go down into the hole.
Image

Matt catching yet another dose of tranny fluid...
Image

About a half hour later... Had to torch the engine stands off the frame and sawzalled the radiator support (it's very rusty on the bottom).
Image

It actually fits about half. I plan on doing a 1.5" body lift like the '71 and everything looks like it'll be happy. The engine is sitting on the steering and the crossmember, the tranny on the front crossmember. The oil pan tucks in behind the crossmember. The driveshaft is about a foot too long but otherwise I think everything is going to line up pretty well.
Image

The compressor housing needs clocked a bit and there's plenty of room for the exhaust. I'm not sure which radiator I'll end up with, maybe I'll be able to reuse the heavy duty cooling one and of course I need to figure out if the big PS intercooler will fit.

Ok, fourth day... Spent about an hour last night, picked the engine back up and shoved a 4x6 chunk of pine under the pan so I could steer and this morning pushed the whole works up in the garage. Goal for the day is get the grill off so I can fit the intercooler and make the engine mounts. I may also end up lifting the cab and front clip for clearance which means the bumper has to come off as well. I need to pull the driveshaft to get the tranny where it belongs. The driveshaft is caged by the Aux fuel tank framework. PITA, I have about half a notion to be rid of that tank too and just run the in cab tank but I really wanted to be rid of the in cab so I have room to store straps and stuff.
