Step Ideas
Hey guys. I want to put steps on my 68 4x4. I have some nerf bars that came off a Dodge that will line up good but I will have to fabricate some brackets. Just curious what otheres have done.

Why is it that the trucks are always the best running vehicles in the family?

Re: Step Ideas
i have some old school aluminum tread running boards. they were on a bump i parted out. they were much good. and i almost scrapped them. but when i go tmy 4wd i kept them and was thinking about using them on my 4wd. but now i cant find the bolts that held them togther. stupid special bolts anyway. i also have access to some dodge dakota running boards my dad gave me. i dotn know if they will even fit yet.
i have always thought nerf bars were suppose to bolt to the frame. am i wrong?

Re: Step Ideas
Hey guys. Thanks for the replies. Brutus, I have a set close to those that were on my 70. Your truck looks good. The bars I have mounting brackets that mount to the front cab mount and I forget where on the rear. The problem is our frames are much further in than Dodge and there is no real mounting point in the rear. I will try to get a picture of what I'm trying to go for this afternoon with the bars.

Here is a picture of the nerf bars and how they will line up with the door and bed.

Re: Step Ideas
wow almost too long. here are two ways i would look at trying to do it. weld a piece of channel tube onto the frame the size you need the brackets to bolt to. as long as they arent too long to put too much stress on you could bolt to the new tubes coming out from the frame. idea 2. weld a piece of pipe just slightly smaller than the inside of the nerf bar tube. to a piece of flat plate. bolt or weld the plate to the frame. remove the black brackets from the nerf bar and slip the nerf bar over the pipe then drill a hole and botl it. or weld the nerf bar to the pipe.

Re: Step Ideas
Ok. I gave up on the nerf bar idea. Too much involved to try and mount them. I went to the pic n pull this weekend and found some steps that I think will work with a little customizing.

Re: Step Ideas
I am facing the same issue and am going to try steps made with 2 pieces of 1 1/4" cable 10" long with 2"x1/2" strap about a foot long on the bottom
and an angel piece for the top to bolt to cab.I have seen steps like this on all sorts of equipment. anyone using this system and if so are you happy with it?
Steve.
