It's a standard long bed with a 3 speed manual transmission.

I'll let you know later today. I'm gonna get out there and work on it once it warms up some.

Well today I took a small file and cleaned up the splines on both shafts, I was able to knock it on with rubber mallet. I can tell a difference, but I still have a roar... I'm hoping it not the axle bearings or a the pinion bearing.

if you had to beat it on with a hammer it might be binding-to tight.it should have a little movement. :2cents:

Not full swings... just a little help from the mallet, Not a lot of leverage laying on my back on a creeper.

Hope you got it right. Shouldn't have to use a hammer, even a rubber mallet. Of course in the ship's engineering space when someone was having a problem repairing a piece of equipment we used to say. "Get a bigger hammer."

I drove it to work today... It is doing fine, I just gotta figure out where the roar is coming from. I really had hoped it was the carrier bearing. :(

It must have been gradual, I didn't really notice it until my wife asked me what was that noise.. My hearing isn't so keen anyway.
I had just put new tires on it before then, BF G. T/As They aren't loud tires.
I checked the oil Sat, it held about a cup maybe. the trans held about the same. No clutch fan on this motor.

Same tires I recently put on, you are right it wouldn't be them. Mine are not noisy. I agree with Bobby, sounds like it is a bearing.

Well, we found the culprit of the roaring... There was about a eight of an inch play in the left rear wheel, so that axle bearing was replaced.... took it out and roadtested it... Still Roaring!! So we jacked it up, put it in high gear and let it run... noise coming from the right side. No play what so ever in this one. Pulled the axle and the bearing was tight! Really tight and rough. Replaced that bearing and now all is quiet.

Axle bearings do not need to have play in them for them to be noisy or bad.
