c-6 tailshaft length question??

i have 460 and c-6 out of a 1976 lincoln.i want to install in my 67 f-100 shortbed.the c-6 has a long tailshaft,other than shortening the driveshaft and moving the trans mount back will this trans work or will i have to get a short shaft trans. thanks,james

i think it was old red ford who also used a thunderbird transmission. he made soem sort of mod to bolt the mounts to the truck. they are twin mounts on each side of the tailhousing.

fordman, thanks for the response.i know i can make any mount work. but my concern is the length of the trans does it make any difference

You can swap the output shaft from your current C6 if it has a short shaft. That's what I did with mine, that way the driveshaft does not need to be modified and it gives you the opportunity to freshen up the trans.

Just be aware that you are probably going to have to make a trans mount. The Lincolns ones are special and I have not found a source for replacements. As Fordman noted, they are on the sides of the housing and nothing like any other Ford. On the last one I did, I just made a strap to bolt to the mounts that a regular truck mount could bolt to. It wasn't too hard but not fun either (it was going in a 47 Lincoln, nothing fit anyway!). Hawkrod

yes it is an odd looking mount,with one bolt in the middle and two on angles,theres nothing like a good challenge
