4x4 three on the tree?
i have a 1967 f100 i wanna convert to 4x4, if i do do it, il do it properly, by switching to a 67 - 72 4x4 frame with a divorced t-case.
is there any reason i wont be able to do it with a 3spd?
has it been done?
am i insane?

off the top of my head I will say you are going to have issues with the steering column. The 4x4 use an intermediate shaft to connect the steering column to the box.

Re: 4x4 three on the tree?
it seems that ford has done it to the F250 so why not. i dont see any problems that cant be overcome. http://www.fordification.com/tech/image ... kage01.jpg
you may have to make the driveshaft and a moutn for the transfer case shifter. unless you can find them to buy. and then the mount for the trasfer case. which isnt really much but a couple of piece of angle iron.

Re: 4x4 three on the tree?
right now it has a rag joint, could it be converted to a u joint fairly easy? do i need a diffrent steering box?
also, while im in and dirty, would a f250 4x4 chassis so i could convert my truck fron 1/2 ton 2wd to 3/4 ton 4x4.

you can cut off your column flange and weld on a u joint rod and another u joint. the steering box might be able to be reused. depending on which one you have. it might be just as good to get the f250 frame for a 4wd conversion using 2wd parts for the trans and transfer case mounting.

Re: 4x4 three on the tree?
legally around here you have to get a builders title. and they will assign the truck a new vin number. i have never actually done a frame swap. so i dont know what i would do. if i would pay the fee and loose my old vin or if i would just leave the tag on the door and forget the frame number. the only time the frame vin may get looked at is if they haul the truck in for an inspection of some kind. stolen vehicle or whatever they may do those sort of inspections for up there.

Re: 4x4 three on the tree?
It really doesn't matter. Myself, I'd use the title for the 4x4 since the truck isn't a 2wd anymore and someone buying it down the road may have an issue with a 2wd title.1967mercury wrote:if i drop the body on a 3/4 ton 4x4 frame, what VIN do i use?
If you purchase a 3/4 ton 4x4 chassis to go under your truck I'd bet it will come equipped with a 4 speed. I would use the 4 speed.
How are you going to mount the transfer case shifter on a 3.03?
