9inch Trac lock Anyone used BadShoe Dvd?
http://www.badshoeproductions.com/
I've had this in my favorites list---knowing that I would be redoing my open 9 with a Trac lok or posi 9. I just bought a T lock and toploader 4spd of my buddy for $400 with a few other misc. parts-- think its fair $.
Has anybody had Xperiance with these dvd's--everyone talks about how easy a 9inch is to work on,but its going to be brand new to me
Basically want to rebuild it before it go's in and also looking for advice on who or what brand replacement parts to go with THX in advance

Re: 9inch Trac lock Anyone used BadShoe Dvd?
Interesting how theres 2pages worth of replys--for how to get a stain out of the carpet---and yet no one has any ideas on how to rebuild a ford 9" did I piss somebody off---or is this board --all about General and blah, blah. Doesn't really matter I'm half way done with it anyways and no Dvd purchase
Sorry, done whining and crying, but up until now----I thought more of this forum
THX clay for the help I needed

So how was it? I followed your thread for a few days before it dropped below the radar cause I think I'm going to use a Trac Loc and wanted to know what it was like to rebuild one in case I had to, in the future, or bought used. Saw no replies so thought like you did, that nobody had done it. I had forgotten your post so posted myself, similar, last night.

Re: 9inch Trac lock Anyone used BadShoe Dvd?
pretty much straight forward---my biggest hurdle was the thought of it being an Equa lock(according to http://kevinstang.com/Ninecase.htm )and not a trac lock. Upon disassembly I found that I did indeed have a (4tabs,4spring etc)trac lock. Waiting on clutch kit, already have bearing kit, blasted the case and repainted. Finish the bearing replacment today--hope to have it back together mid weeksargentrs wrote:So how was it? If I was more experianced in the 9" I for one would have replied. The carpet stain issue as you noticed is in the gen. blah, blah, sec. A little complaining once in a while is good for the soul, better than holding it in. Glad your project is comming along. Once done you will be able to help the rest of us out with the rebuild of a 9" Holy crap, me thinks I was just complaining.
May your sails stay full, and your knots not slip. Unless a slip knot.

The factory service manual is a good source also.

Yeah, I've been through mine and read the details. Book learnin's no substitute for hands on experience though. My biggest concerns are things like gear lash, crush sleeves shimming, etc. I can take it apart and put it together competently enough, I reckon, but those details are what I have no experience with. Might find a used one to play with first and if I blow it, buy a new one.BobbyFord wrote:The factory service manual is a good source also.

Re: 9inch Trac lock Anyone used BadShoe Dvd?
Well Its back together with fresh bearings, new clutch kit, paint job,but not complete. The wear patterns indicate that pinion needs to be shimmed out. Gonna
mic the shim on my open 9--- that its in tolerence or I'll have to find and order shims. Also need to find an inch pound torque wrench to check rotational
travel---theres no slop in pinion and its at 150ft pounds. Backlash has been set by dial caliper to specs. Working with a ford mechanic that says its more of a feel than anything

Re: 9inch Trac lock Anyone used BadShoe Dvd?
Randy-no pic's as in a tutorial sense, but will be posting pic's in my project thread as I re-install the whole rear end assembly. After having pinion in and out a couple(screwing with shim's)times yesterday---came up with a good mesh between ring and pinion gears.....wear pattern wasn't "Picture" perfect, but wasn't a bad wear pattern either. The lash or drag is tolerable, backlash is set, preload and retainer's setsargentrs wrote:Great job! Didn't take pics by any chance?

Re: 9inch Trac lock Anyone used BadShoe Dvd?
Well Randy nothing goes without a "Novice" incidentsargentrs wrote:Congrats! Looking forward to starting on mine this spring.
As the pic's show here ( http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... &start=120 ) everythings good
And then I started to install my axles Pas. side no problem..Drv.side no go
The problem---clutch pack spline and "spider"or side differential gear spline not alligned I know we made sure they were alligned when we did it
So out comes the third member and back apart it goes. I realized the problem, after I re alligned it and was torqing down the ring gear( by sticking the other axle in...to help hold it) again. The other axle and the torque against it caused the spider gear to turn Fixing the allignment again...I stuck the axle shaft through the two and put the ring gear on with my impact.
It's all good now ...working on my drum brakes
Just a little FYI

Great! I'm glad you kept me informed. That misalignment thing would not even have occurred to me. Good idea putting the shaft in while you torqued. I'll have to remember that. Thanks for the update!
