Your truck is looking great btw. Keep up the good work!

Mike, I did a LOT of research on which matting was the best bang for the buck.....I looked at dynamat, second skin, hushmat.....down to the "peel and stick" from Lowe's. I decided to go with a product called "Zilla Mat" and i bought it off of Ebay. It seemed to have a very thick foil coat and was about $1.50 per square foot, including shipping. I bought the 100 sq. foot roll for $152.00 total. They shipped it within 5 days. It also came with the roller. You can check them out directly at zillamat.com. It really worked very well. Very sticky adhesive and it cut pretty easily with a good pair of HD sharp scissors or a utility knife. It did come in 1 big roll but I just set it in the house for a day to let it "warm" up and cut it into smaller pieces as I went along. It molded very easily to the contours and crevices. It took a lot of prep to clean all of the areas and I suggest that you be patient and really measure and/or use templates before sticking it into the tighter places. I also used the aluminum tape to go over the seams. Probably didn't need to but I did anyway. I also used the 3/8" foil with jute backing insulation to go over it in the door panels, headliner, and behind the gas tank wall. I am ordering the die cut sound deadener padding and same heat shield padding from LMC for the floor before the carpet goes in place. I test drove it with just the zilla mat in place and it was significantly quieter. I also put the rubberized undercoating underneath the truck on the floor pan and other exposed cab areas. I also put the undercoating over the zillamat in the doors. You can see a variety of videos on you-tube from dynamat or second skin to get a good idea of how to install the stuff. Im pretty happy so far with the results. Good luck with your project and let us know how it goes! :fr:

The chrome headliner trim from Ebay came Friday so had to work on the truck this weekend. Took the original stock headliner down and it needed cleaning but couldn't really clean it without it flaking off so I decided to paint it. After a lot of thought and research, i decided to buy a qt of flat enamel paint and roll it on. Took 4 coats but looks great! :woohoo: I wanted it stock but chose to go a tad lighter than the original cream. I thought it matched the off-white interior a little better. I hope to get the headliner and trim up next weekend. I've done the sound insulation behind the headliner.

Nice work on the sound proofing. Make sure you didn't cover up the drainage holes in the bottom of the door though. Water Will get in there and needs a way out

You should also replace the window channel seals as well to keep as much water out as possible. Make sure you buy the ones that are rubber and not felt. Not sure about the material you used but if it gets wet and absorbs the water it might promote rust.

I'm glad you mentioned that. When I took the door panels off to install the matting, I cleaned up the insides, lubed the tracks, etc. and i noticed the window channel seals were quite cracked with pieces missing. I was going to research that but since you've brought it up, I should probably do it sooner than later. have you replaced yours? Do they just pop out or do you need to remove the window? I wasn't sure of how they came and how to install them. Any help is appreciated! :?

It's easier if you remove the window. Wasn't to hard I figured it out when I was 16 and that was.... A while back lol.

This link should help you out more than me though...

Hey, thanks for that link. That is very helpful. I have a tendency to take things apart only to either damage something or find out that there was a much easier way to do it so now I try to ask and/or research before attacking. :fr:

Worked all 3 day weekend on Ole Blue. I finished cleaning/painting/detailing the engine. Very time consuming when the engine isn't out of the compartment. I also finished painting the headliner and putting the new-used chrome headliner trim up. The chrome headliner trim is a little different from the original painted trim so I had to drill a couple of new holes but it went up easy. Looks great. Here are some before and after pics of the engine. I should have taken pics of the engine when I first bought the truck but I started t clean it before I took the fist pics so the before shots don't look all that bad. :D

Worked all day on the interior. So far I have put the sound dampner in the doors, floor and cab walls. I have also put the foil backed jute backed insulation in the headliner and have repainted the headliner and put up the new chrome trim. Today, I put the foil backed jute backed insulation down on the floor. Boy, does my back hurt from bending over and working  . Next weekend, I hope to put down the mass loaded vinyl that I ordered. That should be a little interesting to put down. Once that is complete, I will finally order the molded carpet and install that. :fr:
