New owner of a '68 F100
Hello all,
Just picked up a '68 F100 from down the street. I'm sure I'll be in here often getting some tips. Thanks in advance for all the help.

I got my truck from down the street too, 11 years ago. It's a good place to find 'em.

Here's some personality traits (aside from the air cleaner apparently facing the wrong way):
Anyone know what the doohickeys are? The little white plastic sensor with the black nipple and the trumpet-looking thing under the hinged bracket just in front? You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: New owner of a '68 F100
While we're at it, here's what I know is wrong with it:
1. Needs a tuneup. I'm guessing I should change the belts, plugs, plug wires, oil.... I haven't looked at anything yet (since I just got it today) so I don't know what condition the distributor is in. The guy who sold it to me "adjusted the timing" by turning the cap a bit before he gave it to me.
2. Master cylinder probably leaks. The brake lines leading up to it are a bit rusty.
3. The clutch is almost completely gone. I took it to the gas station and it almost didn't make it back. I realized halfway through I was flooring it most of the time. Once I hit the slight incline back to the house I could feel it lurching a bit. That may explain why it feels like the three speeds all sound the same.
What's the favorite service manual for these trucks?

Oh, and I forgot a couple of more things:
A. Does this thing have high-beams?
B. What is this overdrive lever (the truck is a 3-speed manual)? Could it be that this was an automatic at some point? The VIN on the door doesn't match the title, and the door tag decodes to have an automatic transmission. I pulled it and it looked almost like it should be turned instead.

Found the answer myself: seems to be a Borg-Warner (http://www.fordification.com/tech/overdrive.htm). Heh. I thought it was "freewheeling" because the clutch was so bad.pelesl wrote:B.
