C6 - Delayed forward engagement when cold

Post by GSequoia »

Here's a nagging issue I've been having.

When I first start up the truck and put it in drive there is usually a two or three second lag before it engages. When it does engage it catches on slow and gentle as opposed to harshly. There is no lag in Reverse, it immediately picks up reverse almost harshly (briskly you could say, not hard enough to worry about mounts but you know it happened).

So any ideas? Other than this the transmission works just peachy, and yes, the fluid is full. It's been doing this since I changed out the front pump seal, before then it got a bit of abuse with low fluid (but not a whole lot).

Any ideas? Ultimately I plan to tow with this truck so obviously the transmission is important to me (and yes, before it tows it's first load it will have an aftermarket cooler with a thermostat and gauge).

Maybe the Vauccum Modulator is causing the problem. I had a simaler problem on a C-6 years back. A new Modulator fixed it. I think maybe you can adjust it. I am not a tranny expert, just throwing that out there.

A lot ;)

Probably 175,000. +/- It's the original transmission for the truck.

Forward clutch seal is getting hard and by-passing when cold.

Once it warms up, the seal expands enough to work properly.

Famous on a C6.
Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools talk because they have to say something.--Plato
Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

That's not an oil leak :nono: That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

Nooooooo!

I know it'll need it soon, I'd do it now but I don't know what I want to do transmission wise with this truck. I'd like overdrive eventually but haven't yet decided whether I want to do that with an automatic or manual.

Got my fingers crossed for you. Could keep going for a lotta miles. Or it could, you know.

Yup... Sorta like my Vic, didn't last a thousand miles before the transmission started to eat itself :( That's first in line for a rebuild. Then I have a Jeep transmission (AW4) to rebuild at some point (low priority), then today my wife's Mini decided to slip really bad on me, I fear that transmission might be eating itself with only 78,000 miles on it. Sigh... See why I want to go to a good old manual!
