429 engine swap

Post by corntown67 »

well I have a 1970 ford truck it has a 302 3 speed on the floor,I also have a 429 engine out of a early 70s mercury montego I am wanting to make the truck into a big block hotrod, I want to put an automatic in it, I know where theres a 1974 lincoln with a 460 it has a c6 automatic I was wanting some help with what all im gonna have to do to make this swap work, I am wanting to bolt the 429 up to the c6 and drop it into my truck, I think Ill need different engine perches and an auto crossmember Ive done some research on these parts but the places that Ive found theses things for sale says not for licoln or merury applications, I would appreciate any help with this conversion, thank you

Welcome to the website.
You will need engine perches and mounts (3 pieces per side) from a 73-79 F Series truck w/460. You will also need an automatic crossmember.
The "not for Lincoln or Mercury" refers to the MEL series engine not the 385 series.

Hey thanks for the welcome appreciate that, so basically what your saying is that the not for lincoln or mercury doesnt apply to me because I have a 385 series engine,is that because of the age, I dont know the difference,I have never heard of mel or 385 series, thanks for the reply.

It's because the 385 and the MEL are two different animals. MEL = Mercury Edsel Lincoln.

you may find that the car c6 will require the trans mount and crossmember to be modified in some way. here are some 460 engine mounts for a truck. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 5C#p496433

A place call L&L products produces the engine mounts that you'll need to make this swap without changing the perches, you can use
standard fe perches for the 385 engine. They'll only set you back a cool 125.00 bucks a lite mod to your trans crossmember and its a rap!

Yeah that would work but why do it the hokey way when it is about the same price to do it right? Using the Ford original brackets allows all stock parts to fit as is. L&L is fine but I had to have new exhaust head pipes made as it was just enough different. I didn't buy the L&L stuff but it came with teh truck. Ever since then I use original Ford stuff as long as it is not a 4X4. Hawkrod

I'm glad you told me this because my motors almost finish and I don't need any hick ups! Thanks!
I already think I've got to sell the farm to build this truck the way I want it.
