i picked up a d44 rear axle the other day. all that was there was both big bearing axles with 20 splines on them and the housing. no guts in the case at all. the spring perch center were 40 1/4.
(i asked the guy if it was a ford truck. because i also got a 460 bell c6 case and a part of a newer truck aluminum driveshaft. and he said yes. but that was all that was said except we talekd about why for d used different bell patterns and so forth.)
anyway i found on wikipedia that the 20 splined axles were only in a dana 45. but that is all i could find out. does anyone else know anything more than this? like what vehicle did they come in? are they weak and worthless for use?
OOPS edit: i forgot to say from the back of the lug plate the axles both measure 29 5/8 long.
