I will add to this based on firsthand experience, I have both late model Mustangs and an Explorer. I would not use an 8.8 in anything if I had another option. I have replaced way too many of them and when I go to the junkyard way too many of the cores I look at are broken. The most common failure is the pin that holds the spider gear pin. After that the pinion shaft bearings fail and the bearing on axle causes a high failure rate in axles. I really hate these things but it is still easier to swap one than it would be to convert something else (they have a speed sensor for the ABS in them). Hawkrod
