1968 F350 Rear Axle Nuts

Post by cbfomoco »

I am in need of a source of new rear axle nuts and locks for my 68 f350 with dual wheels. I was on my way to the church hotdog sale today and stoped to pick my dad at the gas station where he was getting front tires put on. Any way i pulled in he got in and let the clutch out. Nothing the truck would not move. Tried 2nd would not move, checked the clutch it was working, put in gear drive shaft would spin so we parked it and called for another ride. After the hot dog sale I got to looking before we tryed to pull it home and the driver side rear wheels were out about 6 inches. I am so glad that I did not lose the rear wheels. We got the nuts back on and the truck home but I need to find new locks for it as that is what went bad and let the nuts come lose. Thanks

it might be the wrong thread nuts and studs it has on it making them come loose. i think i remember readign something about some of the F350's having left hand thread nuts and studs. instead of right hand threads liek mosts cars and truck do.

It was not the nuts and studs that hold the wheel to to drum it was the big nut behind the axle that hold the wheels and drums to the rear end housing/ spindle.

This should be the lock you need: http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Detail ... 0060956193

The lock should also be available from a local Ford dealer, p/n B6Y 1124-B

The nut you need is p/n B6Y 4252-A. Here's a place you can get it that will treat you quite well: http://www.uhaul.com/MovingSupplies/cat ... ut?id=2047

Well I thought I would give an update. The Locks I did get from my local napa. No problem there( they had 4 in stock) . The nuts on the other hand are getting to be a wild goose chase. I ordered 6 from U Haul and was emailed back a week later that they no longer had any of them. So I tryed napa. They only have the newer style that use the wedge style to lock the nut in. Which I am not oposed to using but can not find an answer as to if they will work with my year truck.( does anyone know??) So today I called my local dealer. He said it was not avalabe and the number was no good?? I asked if i could use the new style wedge and they had no clue. I then called Green Ford Sales and they have none. I am going to try a couple other places in the morring but I have a feeling I will get the same answer. I did find one place with them. It is Called Quad 4 x4. I called asking if I could use the new style locks in place of the double nuts and he did not think so but was not sure. He thought there might be a clearnce issue with the hub and the wedge lock. He did say he has the double nuts in stock. I just have not been able to bear the thoughts of paying $120.00 plus shipping for 4 nuts and 2 lock washers. Here is there web site http://quad4x4.com/Ford%20Rear%20Axle.htm So I am still looking and will post back. Does anyone know how to search web sites for NOS parts?? As in all the sites are linked, If they have them, the cost and how many are avalable?? Also I am not against using non ford brand parts if anyone else knows a source for these that are not 30.00 each. Thanks

From what I can find, there are only 3 dealers/obsolete parts vendors that have at least 4 of the nuts in stock:

Dennis Carpenter, Charlotte, NC (704-786-8139) has 57 in stock
Parts International, Farmers Branch, TX (888-727-0418) has 15 in stock
Bob Allen Ford, Overland Park, KS (913-381-3000) has 5 in stock

From my experience, DC wants about 10 times as much as anybody on NOS parts, so don't have a heart attack when they tell you the price.

Hope this helps!!

The wedge locks work just fine. I hate them but they work. They are not reusable and they a pain to take back off. Hawkrod

Thanks for the replies. I will make a mental note that the wedge type will work for next time as I can get those at Napa. Carpenter was one place that I called today. They do have 57 in stock as noted( By they way how do you do that???) There price is $15 each. Not to bad I was expecting worse. Espically when the 4x4 place wanted $30 each. I did also call Joblot Automotive http://www.joblotauto.com/ The have new parts and some NOS. They also cary parts for bigger truck F600 Etc. They had them in stock. He did not say how many. However they are only $3.75 each. That was off the ford part number from above. I ordered 6 of them. So hopefully they will be here the first of next week. So to anyone wanting to get spairs or need new nuts. There are where I have found them.( for the double nut type with the lock washer) Also with the wegde type is this part number I think( dont hold me to it they should be able to look it up at Napa) BK 6351102 ( nut) BK 6351103 (wedge). Thanks Again for all the help and Information Guys. You all have been a big help. I hope this helps others as well.
