this should work shouldnt it?

Post by fordman »

i have a engine but no transmission to bolt it to so i can start the engine. and getting a 460 bell is always a problem around ehre. its either too hard to get out of a truck at the junkyard. or there arent any to be had. so the thought came to me. why not cut the bell off of a automatic and use that to botl the starter to. and then start up the engine. what could go wrong. if i used a gas power portable cut off saw. i could cut right through the case and not have to buy the whole transmission.

I doubt anyone's gonna allow you to cut just the bellhousing off a decent transmission core and leave the rest. If you can find the transmission to cut the piece from, why not just buy the whole transmission and bolt it up?

yes i can just cut the bell off a core trans at this place. they arent a salavage yard. they have no respect for anything other than crushing everything. the bell would only cost me by the pound the whole trans is a much higher price. that i dont want to spend.
