More FMX shifting problems

Post by thrush544 »

Hi Guys,
Alrighty, right out of the blue my transmission will not shift into 3rd. If you put it in drive it will not even shift out of 1st. If you manually downshift to second it then will shift from 1st to 2nd. If you start in second it will stat out in 1st and then shift into 2nd like normal. Or you can start out in 1st and manually shift it to 2nd. I am not sure if this has anything in common to my other problem which I haven't looked into yet.
Hello,
I bought a 69 F-100 with a 302 from Florida, an original Georgia truck. The previous owner rebuilt the engine and did a very nice job. However I am having issues with her downshifting. The slightest incline induced petal push makes her downshift. Usually she'll jump from about 2700/2800 rpm clear to 3800.3900 rpm which is at the very limit of her torque curve and she is just sreaming and going nowhere fast. I cringe just waiting for a rod to go through the side of the block!!! The only adjustment I found on the kickdown rod would be to shorten it one hole. (I just looked at it qickly with my dad one dark evening.) Could it be the wrong rod, or would it kicking in sooner make it better if I shorten the rod. Maybe he rebuilt the engine so it's out of poop by 3500 rpm. Whick would be puzzeling because it doesn'tseem to have an excessive lower end torque either.
I thank you all in advance for any help!
Thanks everyone & God Bless,
Ed

Crawled underneath last night in the dark to find the hose had slipped off the modulator. Is there any type of clamp that holds it on? Also, if I unjust the screw underneath the modulator will that change my shift RPMs? :hmm:
As you see I don't have a lot of experience with transmissions ... which means I have not had many problems with them ... so I guess that's good! :D

Thanks,
Ed

just replace the hose with a new good one. the bolt to adjust it isn inside of the tube on the modulator. i think i wouldnt mess with the adjustment until i could drive it with a good hose on it first. that was probably the whole problem.

The FMX my 70 used to have in it it did the same thing and I don't rember the modulator having anything to adjust seems like there was olny a rod behind it.
