Question on bigger motor

Post by White Lightning »

Hey guys...I am thinking about going from a 360 with a four speed to a 460 with a c-6. I wanted to change to an automatic anyway but I found a Jasper 460 with 40,000 miles on it with the transmission and transfer case for 600 bucks! From what my buddy says, alls I'll have to get are the right motormounts and maybe resize the driveshafts. What do ya'll think?

well 4wd never came with a 460 so you have to use the 400 perches and a adapter kit for the engine to mount. that what i read anyway.

There are lots of different 460's. Check the numbers, know what pistons it has, whether it's internal or external balance, etc. It might be an OK deal for $600, it could be a boat anchor. You need a rear sump pan for a 4x4. You need custom mounts (recommend autofab over l/l). You need headers/manifolds.

I've sent several sets of l/l 460 4x4 mounts to the scrapyard and have read dozens of similiar accounts on this site and others. l/l stuff looks decent, but simply does not hold up to any power at all.

Why not build a good 390 with the 360 block you already have?

Or these have been getting very good reviews, This way everything you have can be reused and bolted back in.
