Got all electric, exhaust manifolds, etc. etc. disconnected from the 302. Then started on interior finding rust I wish I hadn't, guess I'll be welding in some floor pans. Bed bolts would just spin and spin, any idea what to do about them? cutoff tool can't really get at them underneath, suppose I could just cut around the top side since I will be using bed from donor truck but I suspect the same issue might come up with donor truck bed bolts. Anyway, just acouple fo pics to update on progress. SLowly but surely.

My bed bolts did the same thing. I ground off the heads and drove the bolt through the bed with a punch.

Something missing? Got engine and tranny out in one shot. Did it by myself too! :D Came out pretty easily overall, just made mess with fluids left over garage floor. But cleaned up and have engine on side so wife can still park in the garage. Next I plan to take off the bed. Should be less messy but 6 rusty bolts to fight with! Then the cab.....The tear down continues.....Then partial tear down of donor truck! Fun fun fun. Thanks to all on here who have supported and advised me....I am sure I will need lots of help figuring how to put it all back together! :? :fr:

Just remember to take lots of reference pictures to look back on during the disassembly.

Nice thread. I thought my truck bed had rust issues, but a wire brush and Pour 15 is solving the issue for me. I did have to remove one be bolt and replace a busing b/c my bed was lopsided.`

OK, labor day weekend, 3 solid days to get cracking.....started today by grinding out last two stubborn bolts from bed. Removed bed and cleaned up, wife no longer has access to garage until I can get some buddies to come over and help me move bed out. My driveway is gravel and hoist does not roll too well

OK, got cab off today, not without some complications thanks to gravel driveway. But did manage to get everyhting off and nothing broken in the process. Now find someone local who can sandblast chasis and start on suspension and steering.

OK so its been a little while. I have been spening most of my time diassembling and cleaning things up. After much deliberation, decided wire brush and POR-15 for chasis as opposed to sandblasting. A real truckload of work and mess but hopefully was patient and attentive enough to a pretty decent job. Sandblasting might have been more expensive but might have been easier. There are sooo many nooks and crannies on the chasis that make wirebrushing all areas pertty much impossible but I did the best I could. Not building a show truck, just a nicer looking daily driver. Will probably end up spraying some of the POR-15 (have been brushing it on) to try and get to some of those tough to reach areas. THen the grease! Just when you thought 3-4 powerwashings including marine clean would get it all, I stil found spots I missed, so those will need to be cleaned up before POR 15 goes on. THen I plan to top coat with rattle can Rustoleum or something. Still need to get suspension done. Going to check out a local shop in Richmond that one of you referred me to. Probably have them re=wrap or replace rear leafs, new coils, shocks and steering linkages. Hope they can do all that, but I will need to get some of that stuff down and out of the way to finish the POR 15 completely. Wnayway here is picture from today, 1st coat of POR-15, and yes I did pop out the cab/bed mounts, though took a little advice from Fordification and extra BFH tool. In other news, pulled engine down to basics so I can send off to shop and have them rebuild. I do not have expertise nore most of the tools it would take. Keeping the 302 as that is what she had in her from day one and I like that. I'll only tow once in a bue moon if at all. OK, enough babble, here are some photos.

OK another day with POR 15 and a wire grinder!! This time the focus was the inner quarter panels. Before and after, though still have more to do, you can see I had a patch in one of them. Hole about size of a
quarter. grinded it out and used a little ole' bondo. Will sand it down tomorrow and put 2nd coat of POR 15 and top coat. For underside will be getting it line-xed, spray on bed liner stuff. Sent engine to
machine shop for rebuild today too. Coming along.......

Need to find new exhaust manifolds for 302  Turns out mine have issues  So posted for parts wanted. Anyone know where to get new? LMC doesn't have them...........

Donor truck will be up for sael and or parting out once I am done picking it over. THe 360 in it was supposedly rebuilt by PO but not sure how good a job he did. Runs ok once you get it started but blows smoke pretty good. OF course I am taking the doors, the bed, the hood, the windshield and the front quarters. but replacing them with ones from the 1970 restor project I have, so will all be there, just like a donor, though it will be the lesser of quality IMO. Hope to be done with donor by late winter, or early spring so would go for sale around then.
