My 95 F150 is having shift problems, and I have no idea what’s going on.
More than half the time I need to start the truck and put it into gear, I can’t get the shift lever into position….with the occasional exception of reverse.
However, if I move the 4x4 lever into 4x, and then put the truck in gear, no problem. I can then take the truck out of 4x and take off.
Any ideas?

No evidence whatsoever. No fluid inside the bellhousing; fluid level stays the same in the master....BRUTUS_T_HOG wrote:is your clutch slave cylinder leaking?

Has anyone ever changed the clutch?
On the style with the hydraulic throwout bearing ,if you machine the pressure plate when you replace the clutch,
you should put a shim behind the flywheel ,at the crank to make up for the material that's machined off.
otherwise the assembly may not disengage .

The transfercase mode selection has nothing whatsoever to do with transmission shift effort. An M5R2 that's difficult to get into gear is likely a worn shift fork or bad shift stub pivot seats. Have you used good maintenance practices? M5R2's require oil changes every 20K and less for severe conditions. Go 50K and kiss your shift forks goodbye.

I've only had this thing about six months....it has 125K on it, and at least with the P.O., no, it did not get good maintenance. Cat converters and muffler, cut off, glass-pack put on it its' place; killing the O2 sensor; dirty air filter, oil was at least cleaned....probably had good maintenance for the first 100K, but after that, not so much.averagef250 wrote:The transfercase mode selection has nothing whatsoever to do with transmission shift effort.
