AOD

Post by JMcTurnan »

Getting a 86 Merc Grand Marquis, it has an Overdrive transmission. Can i put that to my 1977 351w which is currently running a c4? Im getting the whole car it has a 5.0 efi. I was wondering if I could put that transmission into my truck. If not I would just put the engine and and the tranny, but just wondering.

It should work, Im doing the same swap in my truck. You may need to buy the lokar Throttle Valve cable. It has to be adjusted properly or the transmission will be fried within a couple miles. Also the shift linkage might be different if the car is floor shifted. The Gear Shift pattern on the AOD is a touch different than the c4. Its P-R-N-OD-D-1, so no second gear option.

When you explain if I hook it up wrong it will burn out the transmission, what exactly and how will it happen? So I know what not to do.

The throttle valve cable regulates the line pressure, so if its too low it burns the trans up. this video talks about how to adjust it and may be helpful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6L3hNzxdiYw

I think you would have to bolt it in the truck and see if it will reach the carburetor, and if it does you may have to do some rigging to get it to work with the carburetor properly.
