69 F250 4x4 Front axle question.
I just got my 69 F250 4x4 and it looks like it has an HP Dana 44 but I'm not shure. But on the drivers side the bottom of the tire is angled in pretty bad how do I correct that?? The passenger side dosen't have that problem its straight like an arrow.

Is this a closed knuckle d44, the king pins and bearings are probably shot. http://www.fordification.com/tech/image ... ront01.jpg 3147 3123 am guessing

oh yeah, not good. Definately some positve camberness going on. Can you post pics of the axle? preferabbly by the wheel area...

Re: 69 F250 4x4 Front axle question.
Hmm hard for me to tell looks like maybe the wheel is bent, or possible bearing issue in the hub. the king pins appear to ok. looking the pictures further I suspect the spindle is bent.
Also the wiper rings and retainers are missing on the closed knuckle

Re: 69 F250 4x4 Front axle question.
The issue you are looking at concerning your drivers side tire is reffered to as "possitive camber" my 75 high boy that i recently purchased had the opposite issue (my tire leaned the other way) the axle you have should be the week one. the steering knuckle houseing (the ball and socket joint) from my understanding on a hd dana 44 is almost the same size as your brake drum. heres what I have to do to get to the king pin bearings
http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =4&t=50033
(once i jacked my tire up off the ground and physically moved the tire on my rig it was obvious the bearings were gone) your truck may or may not have the same issue. For me it was on both sides. some oone may have replaced the other side on yours already, this could possibly explain why you only have camber issues on 1 side.
this should be your axle the dana 44-6cf
http://broncograveyard.com/images/addon ... ckld44.jpg
If you jack the truck up you can remove the lower king pin bearing cap, allowing you to gyrate the housing enough see the lower bearing condition or at least a breif glance at it. You can also do the same with the steering arm after placeing the lower cap back into place. i would get the retainer and seals for the back of the housing on there that are missing.
heres a link that helped me ensure i was looking at the right axle.

this is just my opinion from what i have gone through.

Re: 69 F250 4x4 Front axle question.
the bearings are easy just be sure to keep the shims in the right place, they set the preload for the "timkin" bearings.
that is a #3,000 44. the bearings slip on/off the races/cups press in/out,you can remove the cups with a flat chisels/punch.
Put new cups in freezes for 30 mins.then they will go in easier,be sure they are all the way in if you are using a hammer it will
sound different when it seats a piece of hardwood or a large socket can be used to not damage cup.
You can also use allthread and washers to pull them in,it depends on how comfortable you are with a #3 hammer.
Make sure that the shaft is not damaged .

Re: 69 F250 4x4 Front axle question.
You should be able to find the bearing itself at most any parts store as well as the cup (they will probally have to order them) I found they could get the part but none of the guys behind the counter knew anything about them I had to show them that they could get it. So do your research before going in. Autozone has online the bearing (timkin bearing part number 11590) you will also need the cups (get the metal ones not the nylon ones, they will offer you both) The will want to know you're gross vehicle weight theres different bearings for different weights, just be sure the bearings you buy match the ones you're replacing. Up here we have 3 options at the parts store 1 with nylon cup and 2 with metal cup. They couldn't verify size for me here but if I get mine before you do I'll post what I find out on the sizes. I was able to find a complete kit all the seals needed and bearings with the cups for around $120.00 at a local parts store here. I just have to get the money in hand so I can go get it and put the axle back together. If I can be of any further assistance please just drop me a line, I check up on here frequently.

Re: 69 F250 4x4 Front axle question.
I'm still not convinced that the king pin bearings are to blame for the positive camber. My Highboy can w/ bad king pins on the right side, we had negative camber. I look at the pictures and see an uneven gap between the drum and the backing plate.
Thou jacking the wheel up and checking the king play is the easiest, and 1st thing I would do.

the spindles are a weak point also,I have seen many fail at the point where the flange and the diameter where the lip seal runs.
They crack on the bottom side, these trucks dont like to catch air
