Ok so from what gathered in the linked forum the definition of a highboy would have been a f250 with a divorced transfer case within a certain year range. if this is correct then my truck is indeed a highboy. I can't go off of any markings in the cab because it isn't the origonal cab. I think the suspension may have sagged on it. My next question is can any one recommend a cost effective replacement for the sagging suspension. My signature contains a link to a picture of my truck due to the fact i haven't figured out how to actually put the picture in the signature yet. I do plan on using the dump ability of my truck rather heavily as this will be a farm truck / play toy! never really played around with 4x4's that much so not to familar with what would hold up to what abuse the best. thanks for the help.

that is a lot i don't think that is stock. but i have never seen a F350 in that year or with a dump bed. only a uhaul and it was a 79 with aluminum box on the back. it didn't have that many springs on it.

i know the dump isn't stock. i just wasn't sure if the number of springs or the block located on top of the axle was stock

the block is stock. and probably so are the first set of springs. the second set may or may not be stock. they could just be overload springs too.

this is the best picture i have of the spring setup at the moment it appears to consist of 2 complete sets of springs without going out to look at it and judgeing by what i can see in the photo i would say both have their own mounts

tanusfarms, those springs are not original to an F-250 4x4. Those springs are from a 1967 through 1997 F-350 cab and chassis dually. Those springs will handle 10K or more on the bed.

Sweet, I guess some of the head ache this truck is giving me is going to be worth it. Is there a way for me to tell if they swapped the whole axle or just the springs, at this point i could see them swapping the whole axle. I know it isn't sitting on duallies but if it could run them i wouldn't mind doing it.

The original axle to those springs would be a dana 70 or sterling. The U-bolts whoever switched them on the truck used are not at all the right ones though. Ford always used square top U-bolts on thier heavier trucks.

Your springs look the same that on my 69 highboy, mine has 11 springs on the bottom and 5 on the top. mine has the square top u-bolts though.

ok so i had a chance to take another look at the springs today, the perches are identical to mljjones67's the lower ones have mounts and the uppers have stops. why would his be different the mine and hazelnuts? also how can I tell if this truck has lift springs on it already? If it doesn't Where can I find Some upgraded ones that will support any weight i will be putting in this truck? It will be used as a farm truck to haul dirt, rock, fire wood, manure, and what ever my little heart desires. Last thing before I go I noticed on the front which I don't think is visable in any of my current photos so i will try to get one up tomorrow that my front tires lean together at the top quite a bit. Could this be a sign of a potential issue that needs to be addressed?
