Re: 1971 f250 DESERT truck- 1/31 Offroading, carnage, etc.
Thanks guys!
Bobby Ford, yeah.... the steering has been leaking like that since i got it, i have been to scared to fix it because it doesn't seem like it would be fun at all.I'll do it.... eventually
This update was suppose to include some big updates on the front end but that is going to have to wait until this week because my boss at the welding shop was pretty busy and no one was at the racing shop. So i tinkered with some small projects.
-Instaleld air horns!!!!! Way too fun... and VERY loud
-Threw some sweeet 5" travel shocks on, they are maxed out at ride heigh so i left the nut at the very top of the shock stem... pretty gheto but its only for a couple days
-pulled the instrument cluster to cut wirse out that i'm not using to clean things up. And while it was out i pulled it apart, cleaned it out, installed some white face gauges i had laying around, and re-assembled.
-Removed my window nets. The ineterior looks a lot cleaner now and they were just getting in the way. I dont know why i didn't take them off sooner... maybe because they are super cool to put up while your driving around town
-Finally fixed the paint on the truck where the gas spilled onto it a long time ago when the stock tank was mounted in the bed.
-While i had the paint out i finally painted the stripes onto the fiberglass fenders
-To paint the fenders i had to pull the stickers so i pulled all the stickers off the truck besides the ones we made for the truck. I then repainted the areas where it pulled some of my paint off, and then I replaced the stickers but in a different spot. The truck has a cleaner look to it, it will help once i re-paint the whole truck in a couple months.
-Installed a cigarette lighter i got from the junkyard out of another bump. Now i can charge my ipod while i listen to it
-My rear axle bolts have been coming all the way loose every other day, flinging gear oil onto my rims. They would always be finger loose, so i pulled the axles, cleaned the bolts, re-sealed the gasket, and put new lock washers on.
-The truck has been firing slow, cranking fast but not firing for a while. I finally found the problem... a massive kink in the 1/2" line right after the cell, where it goes under the bed floor. So temporarily, i zip tied a pen to it to straighten it out It starts fast again.
Go ahead, cut me off The best part is the whole setup would cost about $200 but i pieced it all together from a junkyard so it was a total of $20. Well, the line is new.
Toys at my control... CB Radio, ipod hooked to cig lighter/CD player, air horns (wired to same switch as stock horns for optimum loudness), front mounted offroad lights, rear amber light, etc.
Now DON'T leak!

Re: 1971 f250 DESERT truck- 2/7 Making it more clean
The zeus fasteners were for the truck that these fiberglass fenders came off of. He had a engine cage that these fenders hung on, so he could pull them off quickly. But they are bolted onto mine.
I do have a 429

Nope never had the stickers until after the 429 was in for about a week. After we installed it my dad made those stickers and we threw them onGSequoia wrote:Ah, but you had the stickers before you had it, yes? Seem to recall you sporting a 390 or something.1971ford wrote:I do have a 429
My '69 does have 390 emblems, if that's what you are thinking of. And it IS a poser because it has a 360... while I'm building a beast of a 390.

Re: 1971 f250 DESERT truck- 2/7 Making it more clean
Good idea, I'll take another picture in about 2 weeks, right after my week off of school. Because then I will have the new front suspension, leaf springs in the rear sitting it up a little higher, new spare tire mounting, I'll hang the nets on the velcro, and ass whatever else.

Re: 1971 f250 DESERT truck- 2/7 Making it more clean
Well here it is...
Bolts are temporary, they will be replaced with higher grade bolts and i need to drill the shock mount holes out to match the shock's holes
12" of travel bump to strap. Although the bumps and straps are not yet on. It has more uptravel than it does downtravel.
Drooped:
I forgot to get a picture of the truck at full bump but i'll get a picture next time a coil is off.
It rides soooo much better! I charged the shocks to 140psi -ish. Just on the way home over a bumpy bridge and up the curb, it is way smoother than the stock shocks on extenders were doing
