shifter throw almost hits dash
i drove my f100 3wd 360 mp435 today. the shifter in first gear comes so close to the dahs pad that you cant have your hand wrapped around it to put it in gear. you have to move your finger or they wil be trapped between the dahs and shift knob. the cab is sitting up at factory level besides the worn rubber bushings. is this normal to other similar trucks you guys have? or is this shifter messed up some how? i do note that the shifter looks to have been welded together at the bottom. it is not the same shape as the cane from a 2wd.

Put a little heat on it get it hot so it bends easier and bend it where where you like it to be. Or if it has been welded on find another one out of another truck.

i have another from a 2wd. i thought about using it. but i forgot why i didnt use it to begin with. i think it may have had something to do with possibly putting a/c back in the truck. right now it works. i was just trying to get a comparison to see if it was this shifter or all of similar trucks were like this.

if your is like mine then yes it does almost hit the dash. as well my shifter almost hits the seat in reveres on my 72 so if you bend it make sure your seat is not going to be in the way of that gear. but then again your grear box my be over and up not over and down.

Re: shifter throw almost hits dash
im not going to do anything with it unless i just change the whole shifter out instead. it does go down i think. i do think the reason i didnt swap them in the first place was because of the a/c it had in the truck to begin with. i have a factory box i can put in it instead but i wont do that until summer soemtime. if i do it at all now. i doubt i even need a/c in this truck.

Re: shifter throw almost hits dash
I've always shifted into 1st, 3rd, 5th, etc. (gears towards the dash) with my hand palm up and the shift knob in between my middle and ring fingers.

Re: shifter throw almost hits dash
that is the way i am doing it with 1st gear. its the only one that coems close enough to the dash to trap a finger.

Sounds about right, How often do you even shift into 1st gear with a NP435 anyway? I maybe put my mine in first every month so where the have it located isn't really a big deal to me.
