thats funny right there, vista is prolly one of the worst operating systems microsoft has made. I'll stick with my old bump, and my windows XP.
I'll get it one piece at a time and it wont cost me a dime...

I just started using Windows 7 ... Not bad... It is worth a look if you are interested in upgrading. I needed to do so for work and though there are some issues, they are mostly related to my job, not the OS itself.

BTW, I too avoided Vista.

I have win 7 64bit RC on my desk top, dual boot w/ xp pro. After 4ish hours i get a mysterious BSOD. If Xp would see all my ram I wouldn't even bother w/ Win 7.

XP 64 bit will recognize all your RAM up to 128 GB.
The only computers I use XP on any more are old ones without enough resources to run Vista or 7.
XP is past tense. That was 2 operating systems ago. The only meaningful discussion at this time should be about how soon you can upgrade to Windows 7.

I never had any problems with Vista. Just like anything else, you have to be smarter than what you are working on to get any results.
The people I know that have tried it and didn't like it used a lower version like Vista Home Basic. Of course the lesser versions are going to suck. I use Vista Ultimate 64 bit and have no issues. Of course you need at least 2 GB RAM for Vista.
By far I hear more people that just parrot the bad things they hear other people say about Vista than I hear from people who have actually tried it themselves.

I also use 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate RTM and I like it just fine too.

I Like win 7 rc, just haven't found out what is causing the bsod after 4 hours. The only other problem I am aware of my 5.1 surround sound speakers won't configure correctly, probably a Realtek driver issue. I have 2 license for xp pro 64, I am using 1 on a machine, but am leery about loading on this machine, hardware issues wise.

My Laptop has Vista home premium 64, not sure I like Run as admin, ( too many extra clicks ). Or user account control. I am logged in as Admin so whats the point. I like my os lean mean and as fast as possible.
As for xp being dead, I just started using XP in Mid 06. I only did that so I could use 2 gigs of ram. We shall see what Win 7 brings, Hopefully much better roll out than NT and Vista were.

No matter what op i use from anywhere I wait until they have atleast put out the 1st Service pack. When they build it they build it on top notch computers with the top parts from the manafacturers, but can't test on the average user's machine setup, to many variations, now once it's released and you have a problem and a large enough number of people have simalair problems they test out a fix, then give you the fix, and eventualy they release SP1. then they start fixing the new problems and the SP's start getting rolled out.
