Should I buy engine parts from:
Federal Mogul?
Melling?
Clevite?
Any experience with any of these?
I am getting ready to buy all of the parts to rebuild my 240-6 and I notice all 3 manuf listed.
I have no experience with any of these manuf, and I want to buy the best I can for my money.

All good choices in my book. FWIW the main and rod bearings in my 460 build are Clevite.
Replacing the original bearings from 1973.

when i see those names i think this.
federal mogul = seals
melling = oil pumps
clevite = bearings
i am not recommending anyone manufacturer. this is just what comes to my mind.

Clevite FTW. I used Clevite everything in my 360 Duster, & was pleased.
I plan on using them for my 302 rebuild this winter

Re: Whos the best?
At one time, Clevite made engine bearings for many of the OEM's. The Clevite 77 bearings were the standard that everybody else wanted to beat.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

Yeah Fordman, when you look through the parts list from Northern's rebuild kits thats just about the way it breaks down. FM seals and some main parts, clevite bearings, and melling pump and access. Thanks for all your input, I think I am going with Northern. They have almost everything and at pretty good prices. I worked out my budget and for all of the parts for the build including, radiator, cowl, alt, fuel pump, water pump, plus all the internals I am going to spend right at 1200.00! I think that is quite reasonable.
