I bought a 74' Mercury Montego MX from a guy at work the other day. Im going to pick it up this weekend. The car is junk but, It has a 351C 2v in it & im not sure on the tranny. Its an auto & thats all I know. I have seen the car, it will start & run but the oil press. light comes on at idle. I figure the cam bearings are shot. Im thinking of rebuilding & swapping the Cleveland in my truck in the future, but I dont know.
I'll get pics up this weekend. Its a real gem . I plan on keeping the running gear from it, parting out what I can & junking the rest.
I gave $125 bucks for the whole shitterie . What do you guys think...? I have always been a fan of the Cleveland motors.

Sounds like a deal I couldn't pass up . You did good IMO I would like to see some pics off it, I think it's worth more just for the drivetrain, good find.

Yup, i'll post pics this weekend. The roof is rotted out on it but other than that, its a pretty solid old car.

Re: Picked up a 74' 351C 2v
Money says it's got a C4 behind it... I bought a 1972 Gran Torino Sport GT in 2003 for the same reasons (the Cleveland/9") Still have the Cleve/C4 ... But recently sold the Heavy-duty 9" for $300 on Craigs-list haha... I paid $500 for the Torino. & got $300 back for it, less the engine/trans/rear-end at the scrap-yard the same weekend I picked it up
For $125 I'd say you got a steal of a deal.
Later.
