Upgrading 1 barrel carb to 2 barrel worth it?

Post by retriever47 »

Hey All,

I have a 67 F100 with a engine from a 65 Ford truck. It is a 240, straight 6, 3 speed manual, was originally a 3 on the tree but I converted it to a floor shifter. I was thinking of replacing the 1 barrel carb with a 2 barrel in hope of getting a little more power and reaction time out of the engine. Is it worth it? It isn't great on gas even with the 1 barrel. Just doesn't have any guts. It is very reliable and clean running motor. I rebuilt most of the engine when I switched it. Anybody have any experience with this? Is it even possible with out replacing the manifold also? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for the views, but I think I found my answer at "fordsix.com".

Any advice as to which carb to use would be helpful.

Thanks Again

Still wouldn't mind some info from anyone who has upgraded to a two V carb. I'm leaning towards a Holley with an adapter and spacer to minimize the heat from then engine. Any problems hooking up the auto choke? Can I still rig it with a manual choke?

The 2v Holley 350 cfm an d the 2v 500 cfm come with manual chokes. The 500 cfm would be way to big for a 240 cid engine the 350 would be better. I think that the Autolite and Motorcraft carbs have the same bolt pattern as the Holley. If your adaptor is for a Holley these carbs should fit. They come in many different cfms and have automatic chokes as well as manual. :2cents:
