It was all one piece. I dropped a new distributor in there. It runs really well right now, but I won't know if something is foresure internally problematic untill this one gets grinded too. Because its almost brand new, bought it professionally rebuilt with limited lifetime.

Re: What could go wrong that caused this?
remove the timing chain gear and look for the spacer that might have been left in there.
Re: What could go wrong that caused this?
Can someone tell me if an 89 mustang 302 timing chain cam gear has a spacer built in?
Re: What could go wrong that caused this?
Because I believe the original gear on mine had the spacer built on.

Why do they still sell them with plastic gears,I could just kick the idiot that invented radiator plastic end tanks,Ive owned 2 vehicles that had them in it,and the both of them failed, same with plastic timing and cam gears!

Re: What could go wrong that caused this?
So i asked my mechanic. He said on fords there are no spacer plates, and I'm like wtf. Does anyone know if the 77 351w fiber gear is a different thickness than an 89 302 gear? He said it isn't the gears most likely, but the oil pump seized up. If the oil pump seized up the 30 miles I drove it the last 2 times would of ruined the bearing. But Im going to double check the rod tommorow, then start pulling the timing chain cover.
