loose mechanical adance weights

Post by Montana71-F100 »

I tuned the 360 in my '71 F100 and it runs fine but I noticed that the mechanical advance weights have a lot of play. Would that effect gas mileage or cause other problems?

I tried to buy some at a parts store but they wanted to sell me a rebuilt distributor. If they should be replaced, where can I order some?

Thanks,
Steve

Thanks for the reply. Replacing the distributor may be the best option. I did a major overhaul a couple of years ago and that's the only thing that wasn't touched except for points and condensor.

Have you noticed any difference in performance since you replaced yours?

HUGE Because the springs were tired it was advancing sooner than it ought to. Once I put the new one in and could finally properly time it the ol' 390 got some of it's oomph back (tired old engine that hasn't been properly serviced in the past fifteen or so years, I'm slowly doing this and that while using it as my hauler for my home renovation).

That's encouraging. It looks like it's time for a new disributor.

Thanks!
