Is it a good sign that after a few days of driving, when I go to refill the tank, and take off the cap it makes a wooshing sound like its sucking in a lot of air when I take off the gas cap? Is that a good thing?

Sounds like your tank may not be venting properly :2cents:

you have a non vented gas cap. you need a vented gas cap. the fuel tank get caught up with its own vacuum by having fuel leave but no air coming back in. just like when you drink from a plastic soda bottle. the suction will collaspe the plastic bottle. that is what is trying to happen with the fuel tank. so it needs a way to get air in when the gas is going out. otherwise it wont let the gas flow out. because the fuel pump isnt strong enough to collaspe the fuel tank.

So if one had this issue, and removed the gas cap, then if the truck ran correctly it would verify that it is the gas cap issue. However if the gas cap was left off and the truck did not run correctly, it would not be a non vented gas cap issue. Correct?

get one from the parts store. ask them for a vented gas cap for a 19__ truck.

if it runs badly with hte cap on change the gas cap to a vented one. if it runs badly with it off then its not a gas cap issue. correct.
