Electric Choke

Post by 1970FordTK »

I'd like to get an electric choke for my autolite 2100, has anyone bought a kit or done this modification to theirs yet? If so, who's kit and how did you run the wires?

Is the stator connection marked on the back of the alternator? Or is it just a specific connector type I need to look for?
Does it need a fuse between the alternator to the choke?

Mine came with a new Motorcraft carb already on it, but the electric element wasn't hooked up and the choke was wired open.

Figured there might be a few folks out there wanting to know what I found out. A Choke Cap Eletrical replacement cap (part number 45-258 = you have to ask the counter guy at advance and autozone to search for all products with that number. Several products have it there so make sure) for a Holley 2300 carb will fit the Autolite 2100. As fordman said hook the wire to the stator wire connecton on the altetnator. (mine was maked on the back of the alt.as S1 and had nothing going to it) Only when running (for idiots like me that means the alt. turning with the motor running) do you get a reading of about 6-7 volts. Making the wiring with the basic wiring skills I have was not to bad. Oh, you may need to use two gaskets to make the cap stay put where you set it, the replacement cap comes with a gasket. Just rememeber not to destroy the old one till you find out for sure. Hope this helps out, if any of the stuff here aint right please feel free to make sure to point it out, I dang sure aint no wiring genious. 8)
