OT older engine swap into newer truck
i have a 88 f150. i think the number one piston has a hole in it. plus it might have a water leak around the intake and head area. so the engnie might be toast in it. it is a 4.9l 6cyl efi and all that. i have a 240 6cyl that has been rebuilt but never ran. other than worring about the computer would the engines swap as far as intakes and all of that if i could figure out the computer problem. would there be any kind of port mismatch or anything that i would have to worry about?

Hey Fordman...
If your using an older 240 I6 couldn't you bypass the computer completely ?
I've seen hundreds of nonconventional engine swaps.
As long as you get the engine mounted and get power to it I don't see why it wouldn't work.
You'd probably have alot of fabrication work to do so you'd have to decide if it's worth it to you.

hmm correct me if I'm wrong but the way I'm seeing it is essentially a 240 is a 300 and a 300 a 240 stroke being the difference So why couldn't he/you take the EFI head off the damaged 300 and put it on the 240 and then drive it as if it were the original engine

i didnt do a compression check yet. but i did find a water leak i thought was a broekn head or bad intake gasket. that made me feel a slight bit better. i still think the number one piston or one of the pistons may have a hole in it. the truck runs ok. the engine idle isnt perfect. it shakes when it runs. plus one of the vacuum port must be open to get more air or it will die. its not a clogged air filter. i took that out to test run it. i am still fiddling with this thing. i will run a compression check the next time i get a chance. swapping the head wil be a waste of money for a new head gasket. but i could do that also. it is just stroke i think is the difference in the two engines. i am considering just swapping out the bad piston from aused motor just so i can get it running perfectly. i know used parts. dont worry it will work if i do it.
the reason i think a piston has a hole in it is because the pcv is blowing oil badly. i mean badly. kind of like its puking oil out of the thing. it even likes to blow the pcv out of the hole sometimes. i will do more diagnosis when iget tiem. i will do the right thing without just replacign stuff until its fixed or i give up. i know not to do that. i was taught better than that.
