When to rebuild a carb?

Post by 72bumbee »

My truck dies at stop signs also. I have messed with the carb and no good has come from it. I am going to rebuild, but want to know what a determining factor would be for just getting a new one? I think the choke is screwy. and if I was turning the proper nut, then the idle is screwy too. how concerned should a guy be over brittle plastic and pitted metal when considering a rebuild or replacement?
Thanks,

Hey 72bumbee. How long has the carb been on the truck? If it has been many years, it might not be a bad idea. I think we figured you have the 2100 autolite from the other post. I just rebuilt mine not too long ago and it was pretty easy for my first time doing it. I think I paid like $12 for my rebuild kit at Schucks.

I bought the truck in june and I know it isn't the original. I would guess it is a rebuilt one. maybe ten years old?

the time to get a new carb is when the old one has a crack in it soemplace or the throttle plate bushings are worn out and need replaced. or the carb is broken some how or maybe its warped on the bottom.
