I tore nearly everything out of the engine compartment (excluding engine internals) to get everything sandblasted and repainted. Years of severely leaking valve cover gaskets, power steering fluid, etc... had everything looking rough, but worst was the overspray from the half-a$$ed rattle can job that the PO did in there.......
Not thinking, the crank sleeve that interfaces with the timing cover oil seal went along for the ride, now has two layers of paint over top of a freshly blasted surface.
I also got some paint on the IDs of the sleeve and the harmonic balancer......
Any thoughts on how to best "polish" the oil seal surface? I was thinking a fine wire wheel on a drill to remove the paint, then some wet sanding? When they say "polish" in the repair manual, what kind of surface are they really getting at? Is this a rubbing compound situation after wet sanding?
Also, for the IDs....maybe a cone shaped wire wheel in a drill....??? Anyone have an idea where I could find some bore "reaming" wire wheels??
Thanks....I promise to post before & after pics once done....

wire wheel would really be enough but if you wanted to you could sand wet(could use lube like WD40) or dry with 1000 or 1200. Would worry about the inside unless it won't go on. Use NeverSieze on the ID.

Re: Bonehead move on crank spacer/sleeve
the guy who sold it to you over in paola did all of that paint rebuild. i never buy from those kinds of people. but you did get a very nice truck. i would try some paint remover first. i would then try some fine sand paper and sand around the circle. dont sand from end to end. just wrap the sadn paper around it and spin the sand paper around it as you sit there and read the forums or soemthing. i wouldnt try a wire wheel until last.
