new distributor

i just bought a new distributor for my 300 six. it's a 1975-79 or something like that (aparently the dip sick goes into a different spot in the case. well, the new one has CDI instead of points. do i need to change anything in the wiring because of this? the reason i bought the distro is that mine was starting to wobble and the timing was jumping all over the place.

Ok, so you say a '75 or '76 F250 for the FE motors. Those would be the Duraspark 1 setup. (As per the Bumpwiki link below, this was also an option on the 74 models.)

But, I have a 302 and others have the 300 6 banger, so I did a little looking around myself.

The author mentioned that on a 1964 200/250 6 cylinder motors with a 5/16" oil pump driveshaft, that a '78 or '79 Fairmont distributor would be what to get. I wonder if it fits the 300 inch 6 cylinder the bumps have.

A lot of real good informative on the ignition systems Ford has used over the years. I highly recommend giving it a read.

To summarize, any Ford from 1974 through 1985 may have what we need. The exceptions are too lengthy to repeat here. Check out the chart on the BumpWiki write up for details.

At least now we know where to start and stop looking, a ’74 to ’85 with the same motor.
