sticky lifter/valve
Hey there y'all. I have a 67 F250 Camper Special, 352. 138,000 miles, never rebuilt, runs strong. When my truck has been running for a while, is nice and warm, a ticking noise emanates from the right side of the valve train. It starts quietly, but gets progressively louder. I rev the engine for a minute, and it goes away. It did this before, and I used a 5 minute flush & changed the oil. The noise went away, or so I thought. It just returned as described. I've heard conflicting reports about the motor flush. Any suggestions out there? Also, timing chain was replaced, and apparently had lost some nylon material, which I am told is probably sitting at the bottom of my oil pan. Is there a way to clean bottom of oil pan short of removing it? I think the oil pressure may be lower than normal, possibly due to debris in the oil pickup assembly. Apparently, the oil pan is not that easy to remove in this engine. Thanks for any input.

put automatic transmission fluid in the oil and run it for a while and then change the oil again. you can also pour it down the inside of the carb while its running to unstick a valve. it cleans the internal engine parts. you canalso try marvel mystery oil instead of trans fluid.

kinda. Seafoam, slowly drizzled down the throat of the carb will clean the chambers,(and endear you to the neighbors) Follow the instructions on the can. If you used a "5 minute flush" i'd be REAL careful if the motor is making the same noises. Most of that stuff is extremely caustic, provides no lubrication while it's in the motor, and will knock all sorts of crap loose,sending it into the oil pump screen. If the motor is nasty inside, add about a quart of trans fluid about 100 before the next oil change & let it clean things up.

Guess I could put in a plug for a product we use around here a lot and that is a product called "EOS" or "engine oil supplement" manufactured by GM. That stuff doesn't know what kind of engine it's in but it will sure take out lifter noise if that is what it is. A 352 with that many miles on it could be a valve guide which would blow smoke when you shift the transmission or blow smoke when you are slowing down if the truck has an automatic. Just my own personal experience. Just follow the directions on the can which can be purchased at any GM Parts store.

E.O.S. used to be great for engine break-in, until G.M. changed the formulation. For what the O.P. is trying to achieve, the seafoam/trans fluid treatment should work just fine. Not that E.O.S.is a bad thing, just not what is needed here, IMHO.
