I just bought myself a 68 with a 3 on the tree and 6 cylinder motor. I love this truck.
It died on me on the way home. Blew out oil and the pcv, valve and dipstick. I thought I had a blown head gasket but when i pulled the head the number 1 piston had a hole in it.
Can I run this truck on 5 cylinders for now?
I left the pushroids out of number 1 and tried to start it with no luck.
Any help out there?

Hey Troy...
Welcome to FORDification... the best Ford truck forum on the planet...
Even though that 6'er is a great motor, it's not a good idea to run it with a blown cylinder.
I'd find a drop in a good runnin' 300 6'er in it or rebuild the 6 you've got.
That's rotten luck, but,
'68's ROCK !!!

since you have already pulled the head go ahead and replace the piston while you are there. you can probably do an inframe on it to change the piston. either that or rebuild the whole thing.

I think your just messing with us for now, theres no way you can convince us,or even your self that your gonna try and run that motor on 5 cylinders, why would you do such a thing, youve got the head off,and its a six,so go ahead and pull it on out,and at least scab it back together with one new piston, but get ready to pull it back out soon, cause I doubt it will stay running right with one cylinder full compression, and the rest weak,it may ride for a while, but your better off getting a short-long block, and changing over your covers, oil pan etc and being done with it,I just saw a full long block from gopher for 500$,Im thinking about buying one myself,at that price, its a deal,it was a 300,4.9,im sure they have similar deals on 240-250s as well.
I agree,Ive owned a swb 3 on column, had a six,but I swaped in a 351w,it was a very fun truck to drive,I liked the column shift a lot, mine was a 69,and it was the best in the county, for what it was,I outran 360s,of the same model truck easily,my motor was built by the best man in the state,or one of the best, ive had it to 90 in 2nd gear,I wish I still had it,I miss it.
