Engine died, won't start

Post by Nate's69F100 »

Ok, so last tuesday i was headed to town and when i shifted to 3rd, she just died on me. (no pops, squeaks, anything) so i had to be towed home by my friend and his 1998 V10 dodge :( after a week of working on it i still can't get it started. i have noticed that the distributor is not turning. anybody got some advice or suggestions as to what it might be?

Could be that the drive gear for the distributor broke. Pull the dizzy and check it.

If distriburtor is not turning it may be timing chain or the distributor gear .

If the timing chain broke, the pistons would have hit valves that were in the down position. I'm sure he would have heard that!

Or it could be that the roll pin holding the gear in place on the distributor has sheared. I had that happen once with a 351W. Just shut down......no warning just died. I got out and checked........no distributor rotor rotation.....had it towed home......pulled the distributor and found the sheared pin. ^% dollar wrecker bill for ten miles..........roll pin assortment was a whole three bucks.....................jeez.
