Okay, here we go!!!

Post by granitestate68 »

Hi Folks,

Received my new wiring harness yesterday and am getting ready to put it in tomorrow. By the way, thanks to spfd68  He's a real gentleman and thoughtful too.

Right now I have three groups of wires going through the firewall,

Passenger side: starter, voltage reg and alternator, headlights.

Middle: Coil, water temp and oil indicator.
Middle: Nice shop rag from PO. :?

Driver side: rear wiring and headlights

Now the question, the new harness looks to have a fourth wire that has a grommet around it that looks to go through the firewall. Don't know where this would go (Probably where the nice shop rag is ). I've attached pictures. I'ts the 3rd long wire from the right of the pic. The part number on the wire is C8TB13B711D. I've also attached what the connectors look like. I don't have a clue where these go. Any help would be appreciated.

I also have another question but will have to post separate because of the three pic limit.

Thanks to anyone that can help.

Lee

Here's the next question,

This connector looks to go inside the truck and looks like it's broken off. I haven't really dug into what's inside so this may become very apparent when I'm pulling wires out but I figured I'd give it a shot.

Thanks again,

Lee

Hi Lee!

The first one looks like the harness and connectors for the courtesy light door switches.

The second one looks like the connector for the heater blower motor resistors.

P8270007.jpg is a picture of the connectors for the door-jamb switches for the dome light. The grommet actually goes in the cab sidewall, right at the base of the roof pillar....it'll be obvious when you remove the instrument panel.

The second set of pics shows the connector going to the glovebox-mounted hazard light switch, I believe. Quite often when you go to unplug that connector, the back of the switch comes off with the plug. It's happenend to me several times.

Hi Keith! At first that's what I thought the second one was and I've also experienced the back of the switch coming off too. But the pins are not in the right orientation plus there's not enough of 'em. The hazard switch has 4 pins all arranged in the same direction.

Hmmmm....OK, I believe you're correct on that second set of pics not being the hazard switch. However, I don't think it's the heater resistor wiring though....the resistor only has two individual wires going to it, not a connector plug.

Double hmmm, the pic looks like for a 2-speed fan, not the 3-speed.

Check out your '70 master wiring guide and the connector for the blower motor resistor.

Man, you guys are the nuts:

That explains why I haven't seen the first set of pics. I don't have the courtesy lights. I'll just tie wrap them for the future.

As far as the second set of pics, the hazard connector is intact on the new harness. It'll work great. I'll just see what comes out tomorrow and I'm sure it will be obvious. :?

Thanks again guys you are great.

By the way Keith, would you have the plug that goes into the 71 windshield washer resevoir? The 68 is a different size and won't fit. Let me know and we'll go from there. Thanks,

Was the 3-spd fan even available on a '68? (Assuming, of course, that he got a '68 harness.)

It appears that the shape of the connector is different. Could this connector be the one to the actual heater switch (on the dash)?

EDIT: No, sorry....I don't have that windshield washer connector. The one truck I've parted out that would have included that had a bad harness, so it got left in the truck when I junked it.

Yes, '68s got 3-speed fans.

The connector for the fan switch is different too (already checked). :D

Hi Keith,

It's a 68 harness alright. The numbers match exactly to what I'm taking out. there's a few differences but that may be to when the harness was made in what part of the year.

 This would be a lot easier if I was at the shop, obviously. I'm just trying to go by memory here. Well, it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out by paying attention while disconnecting the old harness.

Thanks Keith,

I appreciate the response about the ws washer connector, I'll keep looking. And yes, I'll be paying attention when taking out the old harness.
Thanks,
Lee

Hey, while going thru this little exercise I noticed another difference between '67s and '68s. The '67 courtesy light harness that I have laying around is different than the '68+. The '67 one does not have connectors for the door jamb switches. Instead it has individual pins that plug into the back of the switches.
