390 oil capacity

what is the amount of oil my 390 truck engine holds with filter. My owners manual says Approx. Caps. 5 qrts. *add 1 qrt. with filter change. Does that mean 6qrts total ?

yes, 6qts

buy 6 but only use 5 until you have started it and ran it for a few minutes. and then check it again. it may only end up being 5 1/2.

5 qts including filter on a 4x2. I've had 4 4x2 FE powered trucks and they all take 4 in the pan + 1 for the filter.

Thanks for the info sideoilerfe I have been using 4 quarts +1 for filter for 38 years and did'nt have any trouble,the dipstick read full. A buddy of mine was the one who said it takes 6 quarts, he said the car 390 takes 5 quarts.

It all depends on the size of the pan. The FE 4x4 pans are deeper so they take more. I've been using 6 1/2 in my 4x4 for 14 years but like you, my 4x2's are 5 total.
