exhaust hanger fuel tank bracket

Post by fordman »

i have a 71 f250 camper special for a parts truck. it has the aux fuel tank. on the front bracket that holds the front strap. there is a second bracket that goes to the passenger side. i think it is some sort of muffler hanger bracket or exhaust bracket of some sort. it looks more like a fuel tank bracket of some sort. i forgot to take any pics of it. has anyone seen these brackets? is it a exhaust bracket or is it something from the fuel tank that was moved to hold the exhaust pipe up?

On the truck you have both exhaust pipes run down the passenger side to the back one above the other with a cross from the drivers side just under the tranny front end. The Gas tank is on the driver's side.

The trucks came with single exhaust from the factory.

You are right until you get into the 500 and up size trucks. I used my truck as an example which has iron manifolds and the pipe crosses to the passenger side and is duals.

here are pics of the extra bracket. i think the po might have moved it from the fuel tank area to the front crossmember to support the exhaust. what do you think? it lines up with the old aux tank rear brackets. iti s just a single exhaust.

that is wierd. i thought it was part of the tank strapping on a f250. didnt the f250 have no skid plate? and only hanger brackets for the aux tank?

That's what I plan to do with my F250CS. It has the drivers side auxiliary tank which I want to retain.

My truck had no skid plate and the book does not show a shield in 71 for an F series. Oh fordman mine has that as a tank support were you think it goes.

I'll have to crawl under my 72 tommrrow and see if it has that. It seems like it has that but I thought it was like a driveshaft loop because I think it bolts to the bottom of the skid plate but I'll look tommrrow.

ok i found it on this page. http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... dplate.jpg it is part of a skid plate bracket. but htis one didnt have the skid plate. it hada front strap.and the rear bracket, strap or skid plate was missing. so i am hoping i can make this bracket work for the rear bracket. that junkyard keeps hauling off all the trucks out there. i will get it put on one way or another. or mayeb i have the strap left off of the 78 i parted out. that would be great if it worked.

Are you gonna need a skid plate or the brackets? If you can't find one up there I'm almost shure the junkyard down here has one. Its got either a 71 or 72 F250 I don't think its a CS but its got the dual tanks.

i am pretty sure i have everything i need for this now. i just need to dig in the part trailer to find the extra straps i saved from the 78. its going to be awhile before i am able to install it though. i will start a project thread when i do it. i did think it was kind of wierd that the tank has two strapping methods on it than is suppose to be on it. by the diagrams it should only have either a skid plate or just the straps alone. but not both.
